Tuteurs| Garden Towers
Tuteurs means "to train". Commonly known as garden towers, these structures are multi-purpose. First and foremost, they are works of art that make a wonderful statement in the garden. But they truly are practical as well!
We use ours for tomatoe cages- they will NEVER tip over! We switched to using the tuteurs for tomato cages after being frustrated by wire cages that just fell over.
For general garden use, they make great supports for floppy plants. We've used them for supporting dahlias, which tend to need staking. Just plant the dahlia in the middle of the garden tower, and it will grow up and through the tuteur! We recommend using plants that don't get huge, at least if you want to still see your beautiful tower! Vines could include some types of clematis and morning glory. The towers CAN support large, heavy plants; you just won't be able to see the tower if it's completely covered.
How long do the towers last? That depends a lot on the care they receive. Ours have been outdoors for 3 years, receiving only a single coat of linseed oil when new. They are still sturdy and in great condition! However, we recommend an annual coat of linseed oil for the longest life. This is especially important in shady or damp areas, where the wood will deteriorate much more quickly.
Weather proof screws are used for assembly. Price includes initial coat of linseed oil. Joints may be wrapped with twine or grapevines for an extra rustic touch for an additional charge. Please contact us if you'd like this option.
We recommend that the tutuers be picked up at our store or delivered to your home. If you live out of the area, please contact us for a quote for shipping. They would ship via truck freight, and be oversized packages.
