Trellis Panel

Trellis Panels  Our handmade contorted willow trellis are absolutely unique works of art; no two pieces will ever be exactly the same!  These garden trellis panels may be used in various ways.  They may be installed as stand alone structures, provided that they are firmly anchored to the ground.  Generally, though, they are used to create a private nook or an archway.  

The Corner Nook  To create a private retreat in your garden, install two panels at a 90* angle to form an "L" shape.  This creates a perfect corner to tuck a bench.  Train some vines on the trellis, and you have the perfect accessory for your garden!  The Nook includes a flat roof.  A roof provides much more stability to the whole structure, by tying the entire top of the two panels together.  It also has the benefit of giving some shade.

The Willow Arbor  The most popular use of these panels, though, is to create an arbor.  A rustic willow arbor will form the perfect entrance to your garden, creating a focal point that will win admiration from your garden guests!  The arbor shown below was custom built for a wedding reception.  The Willow Archway is very similar, but has an arched roof.

Installation & Care  Since each piece is assembled with lots of care, the panels are very sturdy.  Weather proof screws and lag bolts are used for assembly, and linseed oil is used to protect the wood.  While not required, an annual coat of linseed oil will prolong the life of these trellis panels.  

Setup of the panels may be done in various ways.  The posts may be set in concrete, and anchored in this way.  A better, long term solution would be to pour a small concrete footing, with a piece of flat 1/4" thick steel protruding about 8" out of the concrete.  Drill two 5/16" holes in the steel, one at 2" and one at 6".  Drive a 5/16" lag bolt into the post.  For the archways and nooks, an anchor is not absolutely necessary, especially if set in a protected spot without a lot of wind.  Obviously, the larger panels are more stable.
